Happy New Year and the Elise vanity

Happy New Year!
I hope you had a great evening saying goodbye to 2012, and hello to 2013.
We enjoyed celebrating with the same group of friends that we've rung in the New Year with for the past 20 years.
:)
We had gorgeous views of the city and all the fireworks in the surrounding area.

Here's Project #1 for 2013!

Sometimes I get on a streak of finding great furniture pieces.
And right now is one of those times.
I haven't really been trying to find furniture, but there have been some awesome pieces that have just popped up and were too good to pass by!

This beautiful little vanity is one of those finds.
I was actually trying to find some chairs to go with a table I purchased, and as I was heading to the register to pay for some, I spotted this beauty in the corner.
I just couldn't say no.

I painted out everything in Annie Sloan's Old White, and then sprayed the handles in Krylon's Oil Rubbed Bronze.

The debate when I start a piece is, what color?

I had thought about gray, but it just seemed to say 'white' to me.
A gray velvet bench though, was exactly what I wanted to do the top in.

I couldn't find gray velvet, but a lovely slate upholstery suede fit the bill, and was exactly the shade I was envisioning!

Once I had finished painting and waxing it it just felt like it needed a little more, so I did end up hitting the edge of the vanity in French Linen.

A local paper store closed last year, and I stocked up on some beautiful papers for furniture drawer liners.  The pink and gray floral was just the right touch for the interiors.

I love that the mirror isn't a permanent fixture with this piece.
I can just envision it in front of a window- great natural light, but it can be folded down to still enjoy the outside view.

These are the same white mums we used for our Favorite Things party!
Love how fresh they still look for January.

A new piece for the New Year.
With the simple French curves, I decided to name her Elise.

Now I need to go finish packing the Christmas decorations!

  9. Beautiful piece, Denise! Love the color you went with and the grey on the seat. Great papers, too. I have to do some for my dresser which has a similar shape to the drawer like the drawer in this vanity. Can I ask how you managed to cut it so well to fit that curve?
